A petit four, or petits fours, (say: “petty-four”) are small, bite-sized desserts. The name literally translates to “small oven” and the name of the dessert comes from the fact that petits fours were traditionally made in a secondary oven that drew heat off of the main oven in a kitchen or bakery. Petits fours these days can really be any shape or composition, though should remain as one or two bites.
