Well, hello there friend! Do you ever see chefs or celebrities endorsing a product and immediately ask yourself “Why in the hell are they peddling that?” Sure you do! Me too. The assumption we make is always the same: someone is paying <insert celebrity here> boatloads of money to promote something, and they probably don’t give two sh*ts about what they’re selling or whether or not it’s any good. I hate that. I mean, I get it – it would be hard for me to pass up a big check to sell taco shells – but it doesn’t mean I like it.
Well, here at DFK from time to time we establish partnerships with companies and I want to be out there and open with why. First, let me tell you what isn’t happening; I’m not getting paid boatloads of money to promote anything on my site, not even taco shells. That would be nice, because I’d like a yacht made out of gemstones, but it isn’t the case.
We live in the real world though, and it takes a lot to keep Devil’s Food Kitchen up and running, including a little moola. Sometimes our partners provide us with the tools and ingredients needed to make and document our recipes. Sometimes they give us money. Any money taken in from sponsorship is used to keep the site up and running and to keep sending you all of the recipes and content you are now hopelessly addicted to.
And who are those sponsors? They are companies and products that I actually use and love. I promise you I will never, NEVER, recommend something to you that I haven’t personally vetted and approved in my own kitchen. Your trust is important to me, and in my mind it’s dishonest and unethical to tell you to go out and buy or use anything I don’t believe in 100%. That’s just doing what’s right for you and for the companies I’ve partnered with.
Hopefully this gives you a clear picture of what’s going on behind the scenes here at Devil’s Food Kitchen! If you ever have any questions or comments about sponsorship on DFK, pick up the ‘ol keyboard, then set it down again and type an email to me chefscott@devilsfoodkitchen.com. I am also currently excepting straight up donations in the form of money – that yacht ‘aint gonna buy itself.
Cheers! Chef Scott
